Bridge Fire near Wrightwood

Closed

The Pacific Crest Trail is closed from mile 360.8 near Wright Mountain to mile 373.9 at Vincent Gap on the Angeles National Forest due to the impact of the Bridge Fire. Angeles National Forest reopened the PCT northbound of Vincent Gap on June 5, 2025. Questions regarding the closure should be directed to them by calling the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument office in Glendora, CA at 626-335-1251.

An unfortunate detour situation

No open and continuous sections of trail or dirt road exist to safely walk around this closure. We don't encourage walking detours that place people on dangerous paved roads or in other situations that may be hazardous. As such, travel by vehicle for the paved portions of this detour. Described northbound, our recommendation is to leave the PCT at mile 356.2, taking dirt Sheep Creek Truck Trail/Lytle Creek Road (#3N31Y) for 2.9 miles downhill. From where this dirt road intersects high-speed Lone Pine Canyon Road, travel by car through Wrightwood and down the Big Pines Highway. At Shoemaker Canyon, turn left onto Big Rock Creek Road. Follow it until the pavement ends at the Fenner Creek Conservation Camp. The camp’s primary mission is to provide lodging and training for incarcerated fire crews. From here, continue by foot or horse up the now unpaved Big Rock Creek Road (#4N11.2) for two miles to Vincent Gap and the Pacific Crest Trail. The entire detour is 30.5 miles. Please note that Highway 2 is closed for repairs in the area.
