Bridge Alert south of Tehachapi & Hwy 58
Bureau of Land Management engineers inspected the bridge between MM 563.8-563.9 in February of 2026 and, while determined to be structurally sound, there are 2 takeaways trail users, especially equestrians, should remain alert of. 1. As shown in photos, the desert soil has eroded such that there are sizable gaps between the telephone poll beams on both approaches to this narrow bridge that could pose a risk for foot or hoof entrapment. PCTA will be adding decking to these gaps in fall of 2026. 2. An exceptionally large rainstorm (such as Tropical Storm Hillary in 2023) could pose significant erosion issues at the site, changing the usability of the structure. Please proceed with increased caution if travelling during or immediately following storms with significant precipitation. The BLM and PCTA will conduct site visits and adjust this alert throughout the year.
