Castle Crags State Park Root Creek Basin closure

The Pacific Crest Trail in eastern Castle Crags State Park and access to the park from Soda Creek Road will be closed starting May 15, 2025. The closure is anticipated to last until August 1, 2025. The closure is to allow for forest health and fire prevention work.

Detour information

Click the "PCT Closures Map" button to see the detour, which leaves the PCT between Interstate 5 (mile 1502.7) and the Bob’s Hat Trail (mile 1505.3). Further information, including parking details, is available in the PDF below. Described northbound: - Leave the PCT just east of I-5 on Frontage Road, heading south. - Turn right onto River Trail, and head through the tunnel under I-5 across from the yellow house. - Walk through the campground to campsite #25. - Take the Milt Kenney Trail (named after the "Mayor of the PCT", Rest In Peace) uphill to the Bob's Hat Trail to the PCT. Visitors who want to walk their dog on the PCT are directed to access the PCT via the Dog Trail along Castle Creek Rd as dogs are not allowed on the Milt Kenney and Bob's Hat Trails.
