Miner’s Complex in Glacier Peak Wilderness

Updated:
Washington
Closed

The PCT is closed from Mica Lake (mile 2524) to Suiattle Pass (mile 2555.2) due to the Miner's Complex. This is a remote section of Glacier Peak Wilderness between Stevens Pass and Stehekin. Access to and from Stehekin has reopened after being closed by the Pioneer Fire. We recommend checking InciWeb for updates about the Pioneer Fire if visiting Stehekin. People traveling the PCT south of this closure should note that the Top Lake Trail #1506 is closed due to the Shoofly Fire. This trail intersects the PCT at mile 2485.1.

Rugged detour to the east of Glacier Peak

Well prepared people who are interested in a rugged detour can consider heading east around Glacier Peak. This is a long, arduous route with lots of elevation gain and loss through very remote wilderness. The challenges include little traveled trails that don't see a lot of maintenance, down trees (a known issue along Indian Creek), a crossing of the Napeequa River that may be an impossible obstacle after a rain, and some late season snow travel. Travel with partners, carry paper maps, extra food, and leave a trip and communications plan with your support person at home. See the PCT Closure Map (button above) to view the detour. The detour line provided is based off of 2024 U.S. Forest Service data. The actual location of the trail may differ. We recommend using multiple sources of information as the quality of map data varies when you leave the PCT. If you have our smartphone app, creating an account allows you to download the detour and maps for use when you're offline (not connected to cellular service or Wi-Fi). You can print georeferenced PDF maps of the detour from the link below (or load them in Avenza.) Buying an area map is also a good idea. A .gpx file is also provided if you would like to upload the detour into other mapping apps. The detour leaves the PCT between Indian Pass (mile 2501.5) and Suiattle Pass (mile 2555.2). A very rough estimate is that the detour is 69 miles long which means you would travel 123 miles between Stevens Pass and High Bridge near Stehekin.
