William's Mine Fire near Mount Adams

The PCT is closed between FS Road 23 (mile 2232.1) and Potato Hill (mile 2254.3) due to the William's Mine Fire. A portion of Road 23 remains closed but the portion of Road 23 that is north of Road 90 has reopened. This allows for a simpler detour than before. People wishing to visit Trout Lake should visit troutlake.org

Detour via roads

Described in a northbound direction: Leave the PCT at Grand Meadows Trailhead (mile 2226.6) and walk north on Road 88 for 7.5 miles. Turn east on Road 90 and walk 7.1 miles. Turn north of Road 23 and walk 4.3 miles. Turn onto Road 2329 and walk 9.8 miles. Decide whether to turn right on Road 5603 to walk 1.7 miles to Potato Hill Trailhead, or walk 1.2 miles further on Road 2329 and Road 115 to Midway Trailhead.
